Assignments No Comments »

Maybe the last post for a while – seeing that the subject is finished. I might come post again. We’ll see.

Onto the results. I got them back;

  • Assignment 1.1 – Distinction
  • Assignment 1.2 – High Distinction
  • Assignment 2.1 - Distinction
  • Assignment 2.2 – High Distinction
  • Assignment 3 – High Distinction

Bt my reconing that gives me a high distinction grade for the class. I need to soak it in because these don’t come around too often.

Later …maybe.

Reflection on the Weblog

Rantings of interest  Tagged , , No Comments »

For one of the last posts I thought I wouldreflect on the learning experiences this weblog had provided. I suppose I’m motivated to do so after doing the same thing for Assignment 2.2.  Um … where to start? well how about another sting of thoughts;

Pens Lose, Pens Lose

Before I add all the posts that should already be up I need time to mourn. The penguins couldn’t shoot and that’s what killed them. Worse still, with all thsi work I couldn’t watch the game – that’s probably a good thing in hinsight. Give me some time to grieve (maybe a few beers) and then I will get back to posting useful info.

Use of language – and understanding

Rantings of interest  Tagged , , 1 Comment »

     One issue that has come up in a few subjects is the use of language and how this effects online experiences. From a discourse analysis perspective, everything lies on a continuum with spoken and written at the two ends. Now where to online resources stand? Well … that depends.

Skill learning in e-environments

Rantings of interest  Tagged , , No Comments »

Alot of the work I do is around learning physical skills. One of the best eg’s is sport but there are almost countless eg’s in trades and corporate sectors. I’ve looked at developing physical skills in other classes – I reccomend ‘Skill Learning and the Development of Experise’ to everyone, it’s very interesting. Since the start of semester I’ve had difficulty making the connection as to how physical skills can be developed through online environments and e-learning.

E-learning & stress

Rantings of interest  Tagged 1 Comment »

I was doing another assignment on stress and how it manifests and is managed. From an e-learning perspective, I would think that as well as usual stress sources, the hardware produces its own stress. Now – how is this stress dealt with? There may be mechanisms within these online structures, but the hardware problems will probably restrict access. I’m going to (naively) assume that these problems are due to lack of experience. Beyond retraining, are there any ‘real’ methods to halp reduce stress associated with e-learning?

Getting Aroused

Next thought (they tend to come in bunches)

Last week in Psychology of Adult Development we touched on the issue of arousal, and its importance for learning. In short, yoou need to be somewhat aroused and stimulated to learn.

Now, from an e-learning perspective how can arousal be ‘induced’ and maintained. With face to face stuff the facilitator can be noisy or animates to evoke a response, but that kinda doesn’t work for e-learning where much of it is self-motivated, and this can cause problems. One eg – I didn’t post anything for a while because I wan’t aroused enough to do it and there wasn’t someone out there to give me a kick up the pants.

Critical theory – not here!

Rantings of interest  Tagged , , No Comments »

I had my research perspective class yesterday, and we looked at the Critical theory approach to research. Critical theorists’ tell their study participants that they are studdied being studied on, not like were doing. So, Ive been wondering – what research approach are we taking? I’m a scientists and one of those that never knew anything other than positivism until 2 weeks ago (I didn’t even know I was a positivist).

 I want to pose the question as to what approaches other people are taking? and if there any critical theorists with conflict over assignment 1?

 I’d love some debate
